The past year has been a devastating one for movies with the Covid-19 pandemic forcing films to move online or delay their release dates.

Ryan Reynolds-starring Free Guy is one such film to face several delays but now, the fun-filled movie is finally upon us.

But where will Free Guy be available to watch when it releases?

Starring Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer, Free Guy tells the story of a bank teller named Guy who is actually a non-playable character (NPC) in an open-world video game named Free City.

Thanks to a program developed by Jodie Comer’s Millie, Guy becomes aware of his video game surroundings and vows to save the day when the virtual world he inhabits is threatened.

Joining Reynolds and Comer in the cast are Lil Rey Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Joe Keery, Taika Waititi and Camille Kostek.

That’s right, if you want to watch Ryan Reynold’s newest film, you’ll have to venture out to watch it on the big screen.

After being originally scheduled to arrive on our screens in July 2020, Free Guy is now being released on Friday, August 13th in the US as well as here in the UK.

On top of that, the film has a number of release dates depending on the country in question with it arriving a few days earlier in the likes of France and Italy (August 11th).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Free Guy will have a 45-day exclusive run in cinemas before it is made available on any of the digital streaming services to help give the moviegoing business a boost after the past year.

It has since been reported by CBR that as and when Free Guy does come to streaming, its most likely destination is actually HBO Max despite being made by a Disney-owned studio.

This is because Disney’s deal to buy 20th Century Studios (formerly 20th Century Fox) stipulated that the film would get an exclusive theatrical release and would then come to HBO Max.

However, a Disney spokesperson told CBR that only the film’s theatrical release had been confirmed while its streaming and home release were still to be announced.

Free Guy will be available exclusively in theaters when it releases on August 13th, 2021.
